Had the privilege of experiencing first hand the remarkable group of Island known as South Georgia last month for three days! A fair amount of clear weather and following seas meant we could make smooth landings in zodiac’s without too much swell. This is an exceptionally remote, wild and ruggedly beautiful part of our earth… and a place to experience nature first hand. In fact, you literally feel that you are participating in a wild nature documentary, not just as an observer, but actually being right in there! These images are just a fraction of what I shot and I hope this post can partly convey just a tiny amount of the wonderment of being there. Places visited and landings made include, Saisbury Plains, Gold Harbour, Right Whale Bay, St. Andrews Bay, Grytviken, Stromness and the awesome Drygalsky Fjord with the three glaciers.

Photographic Foray on the NSW South Coast October 2019
On Assignment for the past couple of weeks with some time to relax and explore some old favourite locations and also to discover some new locations I have not seen before. The Southern coastline of NSW is remarkable and extremely scenic. It’s a place to re-juvenate and to revel in! Photographically, it is awesome! Most days the light at some point was beautiful and worth getting the camera out for some serious photography… please enjoy this small collection of images I have selected from the many I shot!

Cornwall England July 2019
A sojourn down to Cornwall with my son Adrian and my Grandson Jack was an amazing few days….It’s been a few years since I visited Cornwall and it did not disappoint! We did some good walks around The south and West coastlines and had time to explore some of my favourite fishing villages too. For photography, the Cornish coastline is just superb. Please enjoy a few of the images I have processed so far!
Summer Photographic Sojourn into the Czech Republic July 2019
Although I had a busy schedule which included conducting a photographic workshop into Scotland, we were also able to include a couple of weeks during our long visit in the UK this summer, of touring around the Czech Republic. It’s always good to pop over to Europe when you have made the effort to fly this far from home. My ideal is to discover the secrets of just one country at a time, so we never ventured outside the Czech borders. Starting our drive after spending a few days in the wonderful city of Praque, we headed south to the World Heritage listed town of Cesky Krumlov. We then worked our way in a clock-wise direction around Czechia and the Bohemian countryside driving through the beautiful rural landscapes with farm crops literally everywhere ready to harvest..it’s like a huge garden and various shades of green in every direction. The places we visited and photographed included Jicin, Kost, Udoli, Podcost, Prachovske, Skaly, Tebic, Troskovice and Karlovy Vary. For this post, the images shown are just a few that I have actually had the time to do some post-production on.
Scotland Highlands and Islands Photographic Workshop June-July 2019
The 2019 Scottish Photographic workshop was a huge success and this year the weather was exceptionally kind to us! Our group visited 8 Islands in the inner and outer Hebrides, using 5 different ferries and 1 boat trip to experience the wonder that is Scotland. Some time was spend in the Western highlands too and we had blue skies and calm days which were especially welcomed on the day we photographed the Puffins and other seabirds on Lunga Island. I am sure everyone on the workshop will return home with great memories and amazing images. My thanks goes to every participant who made this trip so special. Special thanks to my son Adrian, our second driver and fantastic organiser of our evening meals. Posted here are just a fraction of the images taken and the ones I have had time to actually process so far. Anyone wanting to experience a workshop with me, my next one is to Norfolk Island in the South Pacific in September. A couple of places are available. For those wanting any information on future workshops that I run please email me at: ianrolfelightscapes@gmail.com

Swedish Lapland Photographic Adventure Workshop February 2019
Another amazing workshop has just been completed and as I sit at home sorting through just a few of the many fine images, I reflect on the awesome adventure that myself, along with Ewen Bell and Shellie Froidevaux, ran for a lucky group of photographers high up in the Arctic circle once again. Snow-storms, full days of sunshine light, clear nights with fantastic Auroras dancing over-head, snow mobile rides through forest and frozen lakes, huskies, and a dazzling fire dance display were just some of the wonderful experiences savoured and photographed. If Ewen and I run another Lapland experience up here in the Arctic Swedish area, jump on board early, to avoid disappointment!
